The Anderson High School is located in Lerwick, Shetland. It has around 900 pupils aged from 12 to 18, and around 84 full time teaching staff. The school was founded in 1862 by Arthur Anderson; and while the school has been significantly extended since then, the original institute building is still in use as the school's English department.

The school educates pupils from secondary one through to secondary six, where they obtain Higher qualifications which are used for entrance to university. The school is one of two in Shetland which offer the optional 5th and 6th years of study; as such most students who want to continue with their education will transfer to the Anderson High School from the various Junior High Schools situated throughout the island.

The school encourages students to "Be Safe, Be Responsible and Show Respect" and the school motto is "do weel and persevere." According to the school handbook the school aims to:
  1. promote the self-esteem and well-being of all members of the school community,
  2. recognising each as a unique, valued and participating member;
  3. promote effective teaching and life-long learning, and
  4. promote effective local, national and international relationships.
